How we saved 22 tonnes of sunflower oil from destruction at the Polish border

An exporter shipped 22 tonnes of bulk sunflower oil to Poland. The certificate of conformity issued by a Ukrainian laboratory did not take into account updated EU requirements on erucic acid levels, which had come into force two weeks before shipment. The cargo was stopped at the border. It faced destruction or forced return to Ukraine.

We promptly obtained an additional test report from an accredited European laboratory, agreed a transit inspection at a terminal in Poland and supported the filing of a corrected export customs declaration. We worked round the clock, as oil is a perishable product.

The cargo cleared customs in 4 days. The client was paid on time, avoiding an €11,000 fine and damage to its reputation with its Polish distributor.
