Customs seized 480 tyres because the speed index was not shown in Ukrainian on the label. We proved in court that:

  • The technical regulation requires labelling "in a language the consumer understands", but does not establish Ukrainian as the only possible language.
  • English is the working language of technical documentation in the automotive industry.
  • Confiscation as a sanction is disproportionate to the violation.

The court agreed: a missing translation is a labelling defect to be remedied, not grounds for confiscation. The ruling was overturned.
