The inspector checks three things: that the documents match the goods, that the goods match the declared UKTZED code, and that there are no signs of a violation.
How to be ready:
- The goods must be accessible for inspection. Do not load them in a way that makes the markings impossible to reach.
- Labelling must be legible. Country of origin, weight, quantity — on every box.
- Keep the technical description at hand. If the inspector doubts the code, show the specification.
- Be present. Your presence or your broker's cuts inspection time by 30–40%.
What not to do: Do not try to "settle the matter on the spot" informally. That is grounds for an in-depth inspection.
